Time lapse of 651 ft. tanker Washington Voyager leaving dry dock at Portland (Ore.) Shipyard. For a sense of scale, if stood on its end, this medium-size ship would be the tallest building in Portland by 105 ft.
this is a neat video. i work at that shipyard as well as my father(30 years so far) and its nice to see it in time lapse because watching in real time takes forever! too bad there isnt a video of drydock 4. that thing was massive.
You're right, it does seem like it takes forever! This is about two hours of real time compressed into 2 minutes. I got sunburned all up and down my right side taking the pictures that became this video.
I would have loved to capture some of the huge vessels in and out of DD #4, but that was before I knew anything about doing this kind of thing.
I enjoyed this video very much. I logged many hours on this vessel as well as sailing it out of this same shipyard after a few drydocks from past years. Thanks! Fond memories. What is your relationship if any with the vessel? Like the music too!
Glad you enjoyed it. I have no connection to the vessel. I live in North Portland, and have always been fascinated by the vessels in drydock. This was the first time I actually saw one refloated. I found the schedule on the Columbia River Pilots Web site, and decided to come experiment with time lapse photography (also a first for me!).
