@stigs013 You can get a ring modulator in pedal form these days - sort of a clangorous type of effect - one popular one is the Electro-Harmonix Frequency Analyzer and Boss makes one now too.

why they dont release the COMPLETE DVD of this gig !!!

Amazing! You can here some clear prefigurings of Shakti riffs (that came later). I hadn't heard this before, not since the original on the album (whatever it was).

What a reorganization of a band...........Jean-Luc, Narada, Ralpe, Gayle.............incredible musicians!! John Mac is a genius.

solo is great the back up "orchestra" very amateur to the point of conflicting with the quality of the entire piece. would have been better with jm, drums, bass, jeal luc, and call it a day!

Anybody fancying trying to transcribe THAT?
lol

I love this!!! Actually, it isn't a ring modulator but a 360 Systems Frequency Shifter which provided a linear frequency shift of harmonics instead of the sum & difference of a ring modulator.. google it for more info. Very cool!

i think john was using some crazy huge old school moog or other synthesizer, he said he toured once with rig that had a synthesizer for each string!

My god,blown away.
what the hell kind of effects pedal is he using?!

Not an effects pedal as such. He put it through a ring modulator. This is in the days before the words 'guitar synth' were even thought of.

Another blast from the past!
This was great as well, Thanks
That back up string section needed some help! dont you think? Once they got going they were fine otherwise it sounded like high school band(or Jack Benny!?)

Re the string quartet: I kind of know what you mean. They are all top players, but for one thing I think they're let down by the sound quality. Maybe it was miked badly, far too 'toppy' and thin sounding.
