For the Electric Company connoisseur, here are three more VERY rare Scanimate interstitials from either the first or second seasons, with all three original Joe Raposo needledrops untampered as broadcast.

1. Circus
2. Butterfly
3. Black-Eyed Susan

Skip Hinnant narrates the cheery first one and soothing second one, while Morgan Freeman does the v/o on the funky third. If you're a fan of Raposo's, you'll really like "Circus", but it's fairly standard. "Butterfly" stands equal-shouldered to his great Sesame Street nature film work and will take your breath away.

But mirthful "Black-Eyed Susan", with Joe behind a perky, soulful organ, takes an unexpectedly mature pop direction. One of his best needledrops here, fans!

  • Nice tracks, especially the black-eyed susan.

That keyboard instrument being played is a clavinet. It was used a lot in funk and soul tracks. Just think Superstition by Stevie Wonder.

  • Raposo dopeness! Peace.

  • All I can say at this time is, Wow.

  • Ooohhhh yeahhhhhhh....

  • I like this. It's funny, and I like his "Black Eyed Susan" soul bit.

  • DAY-UM! I don't recall the "black-eyed Susan" one either, that's a great track!

And I definitely agree about the "Butterfly" needledrop being cut from the same cloth as Joe's nature scores from Sesame Street, so beautiful and uplifting.

  • I loved them all. Especially the Black-Eyed Susan animation. The music and Morgan's reciting is pure poetry. :)

  • I believe that's the state flower of Maryland.

  • "Black-eyed Susan" reminds me of the hit song "Poke Salad Annie"

  • Wow, these are all new to me; in particular, you're right about "black-eyed Susan" having an unusually mature style for kidvid material.
