I have to agree that Webern's music is pretty emotionally distinct, even though it's not sentimentalist..I think the question isn't so much "does this music have emotion" but rather "WHAT is the emotion of this music"

more mental than heart music? you think so? of course, the second mouvement is not as lyrical as the first one, but I think the whole variations are really pure emotional music. webern did not talk at all about the strucutral methods he used, his main concern were the emotions expressed through every single interval.
in fact, after listening to many works of schoenberg and webern, i consider this music to have more depth in its emotionality than any other music. sometimes, it is even to much.

this is the very short way to show the patterns of the serialism, with the design of schönberg, this is more mental music than heart music, if the human be more intelectual maybe he could enjoy this kind of music, but we can not forget that we are mind and soul. Music is only the masterpiece of expresion in the intelectual way and the emotional way
