Lonnie Bunch, Director, National Museum of African American History and Culture

Director Lonnie Bunch talks about the making of the National Museum of African American History and Culture, established in December 16, 2003, becoming the nineteenth museum of the Smithsonian Institution. The museum will be the only national museum devoted exclusively to the documentation of African American life, art, history and culture. The museum's collections will cover topics as varied as slavery, postCivil War Reconstruction, the Harlem Renaissance, and the Civil Rights movement. The museum will use African American history and culture as a lens to examine what it means to be an American.
