The tune 'Featherbed'. It comes from the playing of John Salyer. Typically a cross A tune, my fiddle is tuned in the neighborhood of GDGD (cross G). The 'B' part is usually played 3 times although I think I play it only twice on the first pass... not to mention a few timing problems with this one... if I could just teach the dog to play rhythm guitar she'd straighten me out.

Blackberry the dog joins me as she often does when I'm playing tunes out on the patio.

  • You honor the tradition with your dedication.

This is always obvious in your renditions.

Now it's time to honor you.

    Always five stars.

  • Thanks for that... I certainly appreciate it!

  • Very Fine Fiddling. Upload some more Kentucky style fiddling (I want to learn the style correctly)

    God Bless You!

  • Thanks for the compliment!

I'll try to get some more tunes up soon. If you want to learn the style, there are a lot of other folks out there who do it a heck of a lot better than me: Bruce Greene and Clyde Davenport come to mind, among many others.

Also, Jeff Titon's book Old Time Kentucky Fiddle Tunes is an excellent resource. And the Digital Library of Appalachia (website) has all kinds of source recordings of older Kentucky fiddlers, most now deceased.

  • Great fiddling, briscott. Some day I hope to play as well as you do! Fine tunes, those from Kentucky.

  • Thanks! Your "more uploads!" comment on my channel inspired me to try to get a new video up this morning. I really enjoy your tunes as well... keep 'em comin'! -Brian

  • dog gone good

  • Very nice! Also love that dog!

  • Very smooth and natural! (if you trained your dog on the rhythm guitar the performance would loose in spontaneity)

    ( for playing cross G )

  • Great!

  • That was Awesome! Thanks for sharing the video! 5*s.
