When several thousand children were interviewed and asked whether they would rather be good at sports, good with people or intellegent, 53 percent answered intelligent. Of those only three percent said they wanted to be smart so they could be popular. I guess theres a stigma of sorts attached to intellect. It fascinates and repulses. It only really started after everyone stopped focusing on space now that I think about it. After around then, scientists and their kindred fell out of the spotlight
