Don Drumm's Celebrity DVD & Press Reviews

This movie contains a few of the celebrities I have worked with from the age of 17, in 1955, through age 40, in 1978.

The underlying music & vocals as well as all the instruments in the songs, Swinging Shepherd Blues & My Funny Valentine are performed by me.

In the song, Absence Makes the Heart Go Yonder I am doing the vocal, and the guitar, that answers the mandolin in the instrumental part.

Because of limited space, I could only choose three songs to represent the different stages in my career. Swinging Shepherd Blues represents the style I adopted in the late 1950s. My Funny Valentine is a vocal style I was forced to adopt around 1964. Everyone had to be a singing pianist. If you didnt sing at that time, you didnt work.

And finally, I adopted a country style in a round about way. I was sick and depressed at having to perform on pianos that were out of tune and had broken keys. So I figured, since the owner of the club wouldnt do anything about it, I brought in an acoustic guitar on a very busy Saturday night and did my best with the simple chords I knew, like E, A, D, B, and a few minor chords. The songs were simple folk tunes, and some were simple 3-chord country songs. Unfortunately for me, the owner loved what I was doing and insisted that I stop playing the piano and continue with the folk & country music on the guitar. Because the audience went along with the owner, I eventually wound up having a romance with Country music and wound up hitting the top of the Billboard Charts.

Songs In Order:

1. Swinging Shephard Blues
2. My Funny Valentine
3. Absence Makes the Heart Go Yonder
(Composed by Ed Tossing)
