sometimes at night i thought it was lightning or sumthin

I obviously have seen the camera flashes in person. If you had actually bothered to read any of my posts you would know this already. My point in the above post is that the camera flash is no brighter nor any longer than the flashing strobes on a passing emergency vehicle. Are you suggesting they remove their flashing strobes also? To say "no" the flashing lights of these cameras are dangerous, but the flashing lights on emergency vehicles are not is a blatant contradiction.

See, you do learn something new everyday. While I still don't think the flashes of the Washington cameras are any danger, I will agree that an infrared camera system would be a better system. Like I said, I've never seen one. Thank you for elaborating and enlightening me; I appreciate it.

Any other system I've seen uses infrared at night, causing a flash that isn't even visible unless you're staring at the bulb, in which it still isn't enough to give you that "deer in the headlights" feeling that this camera tends to do. Thanks for your comment but my point still remains.
I'm not going to argue this anymore, I said my piece and I'll leave it at that, don't waste your energy replying with an argument because it'll be forwarded to the "I don't give a shit" bin.
Game, set, match.

If someone has a "horrible" accident because of this "light", they shouldn't be on the road...period! Could you elaborate on the difference between this system and the others you're talking about? I just don't see much difference at all. Everyone that I've seen has a camera and a flash....just like this one.
-
That flash is less than a second...most likely the equivalent of someone blinking. So, unless you drive without blinking I see no harm. I suppose we should force emergency vehicles to stop using their emergency lights as well? I mean, their flashing lights and strobes are just as bright. Seriously, if the brightness of that flash is your biggest concern with those cameras, I suggest you just move on. How about privacy, where the money is going, or trusting some 3rd party with both?

Whether one side or the other...the deal made by the city was a great disservice to the community. Revenue could have been used to resurface Market St. which is a shameful major artery downtown.

i live in washington and i will agree they might saves some lives but will hurt others like light sensititve people.

Lauryn, I'd be willing to bet that if one of your family members or yourself is involved in a HORRIBLE accident due to this light, you'll be singing a different tune.
Seriously, YOU are the one who needs the reality check, and YOU are the one that needs to grow the fuck up.
I've seen these systems in MANY cities due to all the traveling I do for work, and out of ALL of them, this one is the most dangerous and ridiculous.
Do your homework before you mindlessly babble, you dolt.
I hope to GOD I'm standing there with MY cam when some poor citizen is momentarily blinded by that inane flash just long enough to pull into the path of a speeding Washington Police cruiser.
Also, who's going to pay the $97.00 fine for the WPD officers when they get caught breaking the same laws they so rigidly and selectively enforce?
If you're going to put the lunatics in charge of the asylum you should make these cams publicly accessible like other cities have done.
WATCH THE WATCHERS!
