As most of you know, the 1920s was the peak of the player piano's popularity. Here we have a lively player piano rendition of "Charley My Boy" played by M. J.Loscalzo and issued as a re-cut on Play-Rite 385-A (if anyone viewing this has any knowledge of the original roll, please let me know). This was a very popular song for Eddie Cantor in 1924.

  • It will have been taken from a Welte Licensee roll. Loscalzo was born in 1901 and made rolls from about '24 onwards. Not sure when he died.

  • @autopiano ...Thanks so much for that information. Your input is much appreciated.

  • @autopiano Mike Loscalzo lived long enough to not only record pop and jazz piano in the 1920s, but also be a dixieland revivalist in the 1940s and 1950s and later(?) I think. He recorded enough, and made enough rolls, that I would love to reissue all of his rolls and recordings on CD. If I only won the lottery!

Thanks for posting this great roll!

  • Wow!
