A 100-car freight train can move about as much freight as one hundred tractor-trailers and semis through more remote parts of the country, AND on less fuel, too. @intercityrailpal Amtrak will never been completely independant i think. even if they sell out every single train for month they will still incur more than 100 million in losses.

@BTCRAIL101FILMS that is why the B&O Railroad was a prime target during the civil war. it connected the south with the north. i know u are going to say something about the PRR. but the PRR was built around 40yrs after the BO constructed thier line towards harpers ferry.

I noticed that during the years of the Civil War there was more track in th North and barly ANY track in the south!! :0
