Join Maestro Meena for this edition of Overtures for a sneak peak at Puccinis brilliant La Boheme.
The bohemian lifestyle of struggling young artists in Paris is interrupted by the intensity of falling in love. Romance is never uncomplicated. The impoverished poet, Rodolfo, becomes desperately enamored with Mimi, a pretty neighbor who sits alone in her loft embroidering flowers and waiting for spring. Marcello, the artist, agonizes over his tumultuous relationship with flirtatious Musetta, his on-again-off-again sweetheart. The joy of living is counterbalanced with the struggles to keep body and soul together, and passion fights with the need to be understood. Dreams clash with reality, and in the end, life and death share the stage in a poignant portrayal of too little too late.
One of the worlds best-loved operas, Puccinis brilliant La Bohème delivers a message as timeless as love itself.
January 23, 24, 28 & 30, 2010 at the Belk Theater, Charlotte, North Carolina.
I loved this explanation and advertising for La Boheme - and if I ever go to USA, I would make an effort to visit Opera Carolina. It appears very forward thinking - modern and traditional! Thank you.
