2009 Oscar Predictions
Hello and welcome to Clevver.com. Im Joslyn at our Beverly Hills headquarters. Its hard to believe that award season is already around the corner. And its never to early to start making Oscar forecasts-- especially considering this fall it seems like every film to hit theater screens might as well have the words Oscar bait splattered on their posters. Ron Howard and Meryl Streep are contributing two of the major players, and who wouldve thought that Mickey Rourke would re-emerge with a big-time comeback like The Wrestler. The Academy awards previews prove that anything is still possible.
Ron Howard shows hes still got it with Frost/Nixon a film version of the acclaimed play about talk-show host David Frosts post-Watergate Richard Nixon interviews. The description sounds a lot more complicated than it really is and it will definitely be a contender for Best Picture. Also in that category will likely be flicks like Slumdog Millionaire, The Wrestler, Revolutionary Road, and Baz LUhrmanns sweeping Epic Australia.
In the category of best actor, we could potentially see some new faces. Frank Langella is a Broadway legend, complete with three Tony awards, and the 70-year-old actor may soon be taking a golden statue home for his role in Frost/Nixon. Other competitors might include some regulars on the nominee list: Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Will Smith, and Vigo Mortenson.
The list of women being talked about for best actress nominations is just as illustrious. Angelina Jolie, Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep and Nicole Kidman are among the better-known actresses in discussion. But new on the radar this year is Sally Hawkins who could probably be nominated for her performance in Happy go Lucky. No one really knows who she is but theres usually at least one unknown nominee on the list.
Nominees in all categories will be announced early in 2009. Until then make sure to check out some of the trailers for potential candidates right here on clever.com! See you next time!
SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE will win 8 Oscars including Best Picture ;)

Playing a gay person, a mentally retarded person, or a hooker is a good way of assuring a nomination. So is making a film about the holocaust. So next year, if someone wants to be nominated, make a film about a gay, mentally-retarded hooker who survived the holocaust. A shoo-in.
