KATE OR DYE and the CRUNCH: a brutal roller derby injury!

TXRD would like to extend our gratitude once again and formally THANK the audience in attendance at our May 4th, 2008 event for their outstanding demonstration of love and support. As you all are aware, one of our beloved skaters, Kate or Dye, was injured in the third quarter of this truly intense match up between the Cherry Bombs vs. Holy Rollers. The result of her injury as indicated by Kate, when we spoke to her yesterday morning, is a humerus fracture! Kate has since then scheduled an appointment to see her orthopedic surgeon for details of the treatment that will follow and an estimated recovery time frame.

While we expect that she will make a full recovery, this injury will inevitably pose as a hardship to overcome for our "Katers". The donations that were made for her at Sunday's bout will surely assist her through this time. We can not thank our fans in attendance enough for the support they have shown our Kate or Dye.

The business is owned by the skaters. The track is made by people who love and care deeply for the skaters.  Imagining situations where you hate can create a dark little world in your brain. The banked track seems violent, but it is really an oval of sisterhood.

Stuff happens in roller derby....whether it is banked track or flat track. Skaters get hurt. We all know the risks before we ever step on a track...we accept the risks of serious injury because we love the sport. No skater wants to see another get seriously injured, regardless of what it looks like during the game. I've seen one of my own teammates go down with compound fracture of her leg during a flat track tournament. I've broken my own leg at practice It happens. It's the nature of the game

Having posts in an extreme sport like this is asking for big trouble - wether they put a little soft material around them or not. They should have "glass" walls instead.

Next time it may be someone's neck or throat that gets that treatment.

@drunkensilvermonkey There's no sorry in Derby. We all play knowing this kind of shit can happen. HOWEVER. teams will sometimes send flowers to the girls they broke. One of our jammers broken her collarbone, and the TX girls sent gifts to her.
