Two requests in one day for this. Originally aired on WWF Championship Wrestling 2/15/86 Leading up to Wrestlemania II; Boxing Bob Orton offering to strutt his stuff had an open contract that was quickly picked up by Jose Luis Rivera. Here is that boxing match.

  • I always wondered how the WWF got away with this angle. In many states boxing has to be sanctioned and the participants licensed plus doctors on hand, etc. Kayfabe or not wouldn't the state want to protect their domain over regulating boxing?

  • @Srd1126 They were still under the boxing commission at the time therefore when they enetered each state they filed for wavers against the predetermined outcome rule.

  • Jose Luis Rivera was actually a good boxer but did a fine job of jobbing for Orton.

In that era, the WWF's best jobbers were all Puerto Rican such as Rivera, Johnny Rodz, Frankie Williams, Cyclone & Hurricane Soto. All did a great job of setting the table for the WWF's big stars of that time.

  • Looking back I cannot figure out what made us keep watching it. Until the NWA/WCW raised the stakes and took the WWF head-on on the monday night time slot showing only worthwhile matches, most of what was shown was utter crap. Jobbers versus talent and then the good match at the end.

  • Thank u! hahahaha one of the cheesiest gimmicks in WWF history! & with Rivera, one of my fav jobbers, always getting the crap kicked outta him. 1 more shot by Orton after the match for good measure. I haven't seen this since its original airing, great memories!

  • McMahon did his best to sell it, but you can't have muscle builders throwing real punches. The poor sap on the receiving end could end up hurt.

  • Lmao

  • Another great moment I haven't seen in 25 years! I remember the Saturday morning this was on WDCA Channel 20. Boxing Bob Orton was awesome!

  • nice Chyron change to "Boxing Bob", Kerwin

  • this is good wish there was more fights like this

  • In his early days with the WWF, Rivera started off undefeated, but I'm not sure how long that lasted. Of course, his only opponents at the time were fellow jobbers! IIRC, every week, McMahon was touting how Rivera's was going to attempt to continue the streak, as if he were on his way to a title contention. But by then, Rivera started facing guys like Valentine (who gave Rivera his first loss), Orndorff, Iron Shiek, et al. I don't think he ever won again, at least not that I can recall.

  • @lowellriggsiam I liked the jobbers vs talent matches
