This song was written by my good friend, Jennifer Schwirzer. However, I didn't discover that until just a few minutes ago when I read her comment on this video!

It's a scripture song paraphrase based on Luke 14:16-24 which I learned from a cassette tape back in the late '80s or early '90s . As I recall, all the songs on the tape were sung a cappella, though I'm not absolutely sure about that. Anyway, it's a pretty good rendering of this particular parable. I hope you will enjoy it.

A certain man once made a banquet feast
And made many to share.
And sent his servant at suppertime
To tell them all was prepared.

Chorus:
Come for all things are now ready,
Come my supper is prepared,
Come for you are my guests bidden,
There is so much to be shared.

And with one consent,
They made excuse.

The first one said I bought a piece of ground
Twas more to him than life.
The second said I've five oxen here;
The third one married a wife.

The servant came and shewed his lord these things.
The angry master replied,
Go out with haste into the streets and lanes,
Bring the poor, the maimed, halt and blind. (Chorus)

And the outcasts came,
With most grateful hearts.

The servant said, "Lord, there is yet more room.
An empty seat you've not willed."
Go out into the highways and hedges now,
That this my house may be filled.

And none of those whom he had bidden came
For all had cares far too great.
He bids you friend, tarry not to come;
The invitation won't wait. (Chorus)

And yet one more time
Hear the Master say...

Come, for all things now are ready.
Come, my supper is prepared.
Come, for you are my guests bidden.

There is so much to be shared.

  • Jack--This song was on the little flock tape--maybe a hallway tape, I'm not sure. Anyway, I wrote it! There's actually a dramatic story involving the song I'll tell you some time. Nice job!!!!

  • Wow, Jennifer! I had no idea you wrote this song! I ordered the tape from some catalog, and I don't remember who the artist was, but I'm fairly certain there was no mention of your name on the tape, and I don't remember it being a Little Flock tape either, but then my memory is not what it used to be. Anyway, I'm not surprised it was you who wrote the song! Thanks for letting me know! I would love to know the story so I could include it in the video description, so please tell me soon!

  • This is very prophetic Jack. This is the time of the last invitation and for the great banquet feast. Go out with haste into the streets and lanes and bring the poor, the maimed, the blind, and outcasts. Who will listen to this message and invitation? ***** Jesus is Lord.*****

Thanks Jack. Thou good and faithful servant. GB. Ray

  • God bless you, that was beautiful.
