This video demonstrates the jar test for determining the gravel, sand, and clay portions of a soil. Target soil composition is also discussed. This video was made while constructing my rammed earth shed in my backyard. I include notes on what I would change if I could do it again.

  • Did you think about using carbon from ,for example, sawdust....I don't want to use a lot of sand and it has a lot of sawdust available in a lot of countries. So I was thinking about gathering the sawdust, burn it and use it so I could use less sand...What do you guys think? pm me please.

  • @noneedtohaveone Not sure what you mean by "Did you think about using carbon from ,for example, sawdust". The sand is used for friction (the particles lock together with clay and cement) and mass. Sand is simply small rocks. Sawdust is cellulosic and can be smashed down and it will rot.

Summary, I wouldn't use sawdust for anything except maybe papercrete.
