This is my 20 gallon nano reef about two and a half months old. I built the refugium a couple years ago when i first set this tank up, only had it up for a year and was to busy to keep up with it. Now that i have a little more time on my hands I'm getting back into it. I have mud and chaeto in my refugium and also a very simple skimmer that i just made today. It doesn't really produce the black goo foam, probably do to the fact that i have a pretty light bioload right now, but it does produce a brownish foam. I will be adding corals in a few more months and as of right now i have a couple of clowns that i think have finally became a mated pair, and one rock full of mushrooms.

  • hey did u get my friend invite? making my own over flow PVC and buying a return pump is the same thing as the biocube tank right?

  • You mean a fish tank? the biocube i mean?

  • basically my setup is a 20 gallon display tank "which i am going to upgrade to a 50 gallon in the next year" and a 10 gallon fish tank that i turned into a refugium. A return pump is just a pump that is what is in the lower left side of my refugium.

  • DOes bio balls help to stop algae growing and cleans the water too dude?

  • I don't think so, they are basically used to increase surface area for beneficial bacteria to live on. All the little prongs on the balls increase the surface area in the aquarium.

  • What kind of water do u use too?

  • I also had to drill holes on the side of the pvc near the water surface because the water wasn't flowing out as fast as the pump was putting it in.

  • I don't use any kind of overflow box at all... I drilled my tank myself and at the bulkhead i 90'd one inch pvc up to where i wanted my water level to be. My water gravity feeds right from the surface down to the refugium. Also i use RO water that i get from a fish store here in town.

  • How many over flow pipes box u using in order to make a cheap over flow box for your reef tank?
