X were born in Sydney in 1978. Bass player Ian Rilen was looking for a new gig after quitting Rose Tattoo (because they weren't hard enough!) He connected with a powerhouse drummer in Steve Cafiero, a dynamic and raw young guitarist in Ian Krahe and a raucous vocalist named Steve Lucas.

Used to go and see them at the Leichhardt Hotel. One of the greatest bands ever, though their live sound could never be truly captured. Ian Rilen was an incredible bass player, a great talent (I say this even though he did once try to bite me on the shoulder after I politely objected to him urinating near my amp)
