New information has come forward in regards to construction of windscreens for alcohol stoves. Tests have proven that most windscreens being sold and made by individuals are insufficient in the amount of holes that allow air intake at the base of the stove. Watch the flame pattern as the windscreen is lifted to allow air to enter at the stoves' base. For more information on how to build stoves and windscreens log on to bplite.com The windscreen being used in this video is called the EZ-Fold windscreen and is provided with all stoves being sold by zelph on bplite.com

  • Zelph - is that a new design of the Starlyte? I notice there's a circular piece where the wires of the potstand meet in the center.

  • @earlymusicus It's the original design. It was not necessary to have so much wel d to secure the wires.

  • Interesting information, thanks. Do you think that the lack of any wind/breeze has anything to do with the air flow through the holes? I'm wondering when used outdoors, where there is wind, if the air infiltration through the holes along the bottom is much greater?

  • @1jump2many When there is a breeze/wind more air will be forced to enter through the holes and also over the top of the screen.

  • @1jump2many Yes, I think air infiltration through the bottom holes is better when it's windy

  • cut this vid down by two thirds because you repeat yourself three times. good info, thanks.

  • @xelpmok I teach by repetition, I learn by repetition..............You will remember the principle taught here :-)

  • If there's a pot on the stove and the windscreen has a fairly tight fit against it, wouldn't air be drawn up through the holes in the bottom of the windscreen? If there's a greater and less resistant source of O2 it will draw from there causing your flame to dance. If you put the pot on top and have a tight fitting screen it will draw from below and your flame should stabilize... Just my thoughts. Interesting video all the same.

  • That's amazing - now I understand why my stove flame was always all over the place! Thanks, Zelph! I plan on ordering a Starlyte stove and the windscreen, too! And I happen to like the repetition - much better than just rushing through it one time.

  • get on with it dude
