Cleaning Agents for Printed Circuit BoardsAfter all the components on a printed circuit board have been mounted and soldered, we need to perform another very important procedure - wash the circuit board. This is necessary even if we use neutral soldering fluxes. Water is effective only on polar contaminations, like the remains of water-soluble fluxes, traces of etching solutions, dirt brought in with our hands during mounting. But non-polar contaminations, such as remains of colophony, synthetic resins, waxes, oil and grease, which, in the best case scenario, can cause failure of radio electronics, can not be washed off with water. They require specially designed cleaning agents. Today we will discuss those using the example of the Russian wash fluids Solins US and Solins FA+, which are very similar to their counterparts produced by Multicore, Solder, Stanel and Zestron. Our Russian solutions certainly win the competition in terms of their price-quality ratio. The cleaning agents are the concentrates that entirely mix with water at concentration of 10-20%.Let's wash the circuit boards in an ultrasonic bath using Solins US, because this concentrate is designed specially for this application. No special safety measures are required when preparing the solution. Let's mix Solins US with deionized water. We will only need 50 millileters of the cleaning agent per liter of water. You can heat the water to 40-50 degrees Centigrade to increase efficiency. Now, let's put the circuit board into the ultrasonic bath until the flux is entirely gone. The cleaning agent has soft alkalinity, it doesn't corrode metal and safely washes the circuit board without impacting its material or components. Solins US is different from the other cleaning agents in that apart from the glycolic esters with high boiling point, it also contains volatile amino alcohols, which require final flushing in distilled, and, even better, in deionized water, because its quality characteristics are higher.Solins FA+ is a more universal cleaning agent that also helps to wash off all types of contaminants at all soldering stages using manual, ultrasonic or stream washing. The solution consists of glycolic esters only, which fully evaporate. Thus no final flushing with water is required. The cleaning agent can be used by itself or as a 10-20% water solution to remove various types of contaminations in household applications. It easily removes stains made by ballpoint pens, endorsing ink, markers and a lot more. The cleaning agents are also widely used in jewelry to remove remains of polishing materials- for example SOI paste and other contaminations and oxides.Solins US and Solins FA+ are safe, universal, easy to produce, inexpensive and very efficient cleaning agents. The circuit boards washed with the help of these solutions meet all the requirements of the military quality standards.
