Some proper GOLD CUP horses in that era, both The Dikler & L'Escargot aquitted themselves really well in three Gold Cups & could have won three had things just fallen differently for them. I think the quicker ground did for L'Escargot here in his bid for a hat-trick?

Barry Brogan's premature bid for glory robbed The Dikler of certain victory in this race. He left them for dead coming down the hill and had shot his bolt jumping the last. If only Brogan had held him up, The Dikler would have won easily.
