http://www.dixielandcrackerjacks.com
Jazz Club Noord Nederland Jazz Gilde.
Dixieland Crackerjacks live @ Landgoed Ekenstein, Appingedam

Recorded in 2008 (September)

Ray Vanderhooft - vocals, drums
Henk Haverhoek - string bass
Koos Greven - guitar
Slidin' Selena - trombone
Michel Muller - trumpet
Bert Brandsma - alto saxophone, drums

One of the most beautifull songs ever to be dedicated to Louisana's birthplace of Jazz : New Orleans
City where many famous musicians played their first important gigs :
Louis Armstrong, Kid Ory, Barney Bigard, Joe King Oliver, Johnny Dods, Baby Dodds, Sidney Bechet, Tommy Ladnier, Henry Red Allen, Albert Nicolas, Pops Foster, Jelly Roll Morton, Wellman Braud

This piece was composed relatively late in jazz history for the movie : New Orleans. Here Billie Holiday sang it, who incidently never visited the city! (Slidin' Selena & Bert Brandsma did, they played in 2004 several dates, one was the Halloween parade, with the Storyville Stompers, Bert also guessed with the Dukes of Dixieland, and in 1996 played there, amongs others with Sam Alcorn, son of Alvin Alcorn).
In the movie : Louis Armstron, Kid Ory and Barney Bigard also participate.

Dixieland Crackerjacks first recorded this tune (without vocals) in 1995 on their CD : Red Roses for a Blue Lady.

  • Great Rendition!

    5 Stars!

  • Do you work for the radio? We need people that can help us with getting airplay for our CD's.

    Kind regards,

    BB

  • I'd give anything to be able to hear you all during a live performance...what a great song and what a great bunch of talent...definitely the "A" list..The trumpet was awesome and the harmony between the sax and trombone was fantastic. The rhythm section gave the song such a great feeling...Great job singer! Love it all!

  • Thanks for watching & listening!

  • Bert,

I wish I did work in radio, but I'm not in that kind of radio. I'm retired and enjoy good artists.

Your group is one of my favorites!

I will check the local sources and see what I can come up with. I used to produce records and commercials and have been around the industry.

    Keep up the great music!

  • Precious! I'd never heard this song before!!!

    U-K-T

  • Very Good...
