  • @toono21 He plays actual guitar on some songs. Watch "Everything, Everything.". They're not a guitar-driven group and haven't been in a very long time. I think you're being too harsh in your words. It's another tool of sonic manipulation in this sense. There is nothing wrong with that at all. Their music is about layers upon layers of melodies, rhythms and sonic architecture. Sound beds of design. Beautiful constructions. I love he's using it in an unconventional way at times.

  • @toono21 he's using the guitar as a pitch source for a vocoder... Pretty standard stuff

  • If using a vocoder was standard stuff, it wouldn't have needed Peter Frampton to invent and perfect it...

  • what a line YOU BRING LIGHT IN,thanks for all the years of uplifting music

  • @anorak103 That wasn't KCRW, I'm pretty sure he's with Underworld. He's been in various soundcheck videos at different venues.

  • @Dose808 As far as I'm aware, he uses the cds for VOX samples and such. Underworld uploaded a soundcheck video and Karl shows off the back of one of the cd cases there, and it had lots of different VOX samples for different Underworld songs...

  • Bah! Who cares if the CDJ screws up! I think it's a little cooler without the vocal samples. We know that it was silly crap, but it hit the spot, and he let himself be drawn in. The synths on their own sound great, instead of bringing in the tech guy so he could shrug, they should have used the chance to let that arp talk more. Improv!

  • "He's smiling, but he ain't happy", as they say.

In fact he looked pretty damn frustrated that the CD wasn't patched in/faded up when he triggered it. He's trying to start it from 4:28 and it's *fifty* seconds later before tech slowly strolls over to see what's going on.

Impressed at how Karl tries a number of things in the meantime like reinserting & recueing the CD, but would love him to have just recited that bit himself!

I wonder if there's another live studio version without KCRW tech??

  • I just noticed that the one melody in background is the same as ringing bells on cathedral

  • These guys are the balls. Been a huge fan since 93!

  • This is music!

  • Always have to listen through...That's sound!
