Memoir, Part II || Erik & Charles .:. XMFC // (Historic AU)

EEEEEP I FINISHED THIS AT LAST! XD I thought my brain was going to explode, but I'm really happy with how it turned out! :P I had a lot of fun making this! *grins*

I was very tempted to give this story a different ending, but I wanted to give them a happy one, so I decided not to go in that direction. (If you were wondering, I was thinking of making James/Charles a ghost, lol. You guys probably would've killed me though if I did! :P)

P.S.- I'M SORRY THIS IS HELLA LONG! O_O; I didn't expect it to be this long! lol ^^;

STORY / SUMMARY

(Continued from Part I)

Basically the whole story is about unrequited love on Erik's part. Erik loves everything about Charles and it doesn't matter to him that he is a man. Charles, however, only loves Erik as his friend and nothing more... When Erik starts to evade Charles privacy (creeper!Erik hehe) and kisses him outright, Charles is outraged. He leaves Erik, humiliated... while Erik is left heartbroken.

After Charles departs the manor, Erik is so depressed that he starts to drink a lot more than usual. Cecilia, who is Charles's sister, comes to inquire what happened between him and her brother that made their friendship break. Erik confesses to kissing Charles the next day after the dinner. Cecilia tells him that Charles is missing the man in his own way, but Erik doesn't believe her.

When the war comes around, both Charles and Erik enlist for their country. They end up meeting just once, where Erik was having one of many promiscuous relationships because being a drunk wasn't going to get him far. It was an attempt to get over his love for Charles, which unfortunately wasn't fading away. Charles witnesses this and he realizes at last that his perception of love was wrong. That loving a man wasn't a sin nor a fault, but merely a natural way of life.

- 1945 -
(Or maybe an year later, I wasn't quite sure what to put here in the technical sense.)

When the war is over, Charles goes back to the manor where Erik still resides. The man in question answers the door. Charles asks Erik to let him in so they can talk, but Erik is bitter and reluctant. But he doesn't have the heart nor the strength to be angry so he lets Charles through.

Charles reveals the reason why he came to see Erik again. Erik is doubtful at first, thinking that perhaps Charles was confused. He had previously come to the conclusion that it, in fact, his fault that he drove Charles away. That he hadn't understood him at all. Charles proves him wrong by confessing his love and Erik finally becomes aware of the truth.

+ Also, the bit about the rose... I actually didn't know about it until I stumbled upon the symbolization and meaning of roses. And one of many myths and stories behind red roses is the one about Aphrodite, the Greek Goddess of Love and Adonis, the mortal man. They were both in love but a jealous God killed Adonis. And that's how roses may have come to being. I thought it was incredibly neat, tragic but romantic! xP

Goodness gracious, that's like an entire movie in there. A movie set in one of my favourite time periods with..Charles/Erik...in an epic Brideshead Revisited/star-crossed lover/Maurice plot. Wow.
