Beth Orton's I Wish I Never Saw The Sunshine (piano vocal cover, originally by The Ronettes)

A sensational songwriting masterpiece, but don't take my word for it - check out Beth Orton's phenomenal cover version on her seminal Trailer Park album.

My cover is littered with minor mistakes due in part to my trying to record four covers in one morning. Probably I should focus on quality rather than quantity, but in many ways I quite like the raw and flawed nature of these early takes.

For anyone trying to play the song, the opening alternates between D and A several times before moving into a sequence of fourths: Em, A, D, G. This is followed by Em, A leading into a chorus that alternates slightly erratically between D and G before returning via A to D.

The song repeats along these lines apart from the "Or this pain" section which, if memory serves me correctly follows from the D with Bm, G, A (those four chords forming a classic doo-wop/Heart-and-Soul sequence BTW).

Which, in my opinion, is quite a lot to take in. Which is my other excuse for all the errors. (-:
