"I dont see the purpose of turning this into a tv series".... I bet you feel like a fool now that the show was a huge success. Anyway, the show is great for people who don't like to read (not me, many people like that though) yet still want to experience this awesome story.

@asands123 YOU may enjoy the books more and I agree, the books are much better, much more in depth however thousands of people who don't read would probably consider the show better and it's a great show as well. It's also put a lot more money into HBO's pockets and will continue to do so. So I'd say those were some pretty decent "purposes".

Martin has a pretty huge hand in the making of the series. So long as that situation doesn't change, the series will be good. Whether or not you like books better than tv/movies is of course your opinion, i lean toward the book side myself most of the time, but you gotta admit, it was pretty awesome seeing the books come to the screen in a way that did the novels justice. It was kind of odd to see Tyrion portrayed by a guy who was anything less than an abomination, but still...win

I agree the books are better, but to say theirs no purpose in making a series out of it is not fair imo. Not everybody likes to read, and i respect that. So now everyone gets to experience a amazing story

I didn't watch much of this on TV, since i pictured the characters very differently and wanted it to stay that way. Plus you are totally right - the books are very long..building the characters and tension..shortening this process dumbs down everything. Regarding the visuals - violence and sex is a part of the book, but here it's been misused for shock value, being provocative etc..the books are so much more than that! just finished A Dance With Dragons!

ok - I agree (if you have imagination) you can't beat a book...however!...I rarely read, especially fiction...can't really say why, but it takes me forever to finish a book, though, in film format I LOVE the stories. I would rather they slowed things down in film and showed more, but then I wouldn't get bored where most people might, but I'm a very visual person, and coupled with the sound etc - AWESOME. It really shows when good graphics and sets are used. thumbs up! :)
