@BIOJECT no you dont need a perfect coil if you have a rope bag. If you are storing the rope without a bag you need to use the proper technique of coiling the rope. The method is similar to storing a rope for a toss bag, it will uncoil easier if its not in standard wraps.
(note: this only works if the rope is wrapped up tight afterward like he did, it wont work in a duffel or backpack)

My friend is a third generation timber man, and he uses farm feed bags or burlap. The willy-nilly stowage method used here is correct! Both fast, and non-tangling.
I no longer hang out with tree climbers much. But I keep my electrical extension cords in buckets, nowadays. Kind of a similar principle: fast, correct, and yet no tangles.
