Sony VG10 using stock lens for some fall shots. I'm particulary impressed with the video quality over the NEX-5. The 24 mbps shines over the 17 on the Nex-5. The lens is crisp and much sharper than the 18-55. The color is also represented much better on the VG10 and saturation is very good. I will have a full review on my site over the next couple of weeks.

  • There are, of course, some shortcomings with the VG10 which have no real impact on IQ, but take away from what the professionals would want in a camera at this price. The lenses do make a big difference as you said. I was quite pleased with the 18-200 and more pleased with my Canon or Zeiss lens on the front of the camera using the adapters available. The 18-55 lacks.

So the biggest difference is in the bit rate. 24mbps vs. 17mbps on the Nex-5. The difference is significant as far as IQ goes.

  • Do you really think this is a worthwhile upgrade over the NEX5? Manual controls aside, is it that much better.. im getting some really good results adapting some Nikon pro lenses.. imo, the lens makes a huge difference in video quality, ie. have you compared the quality of video with the 18-55?
