Involuntary outpatient treatment, called IOT or AOT, is a controversial strategy mandating psychiatric outpatient treatment. Professor of Law and Psychiatry, Dr. Paul Applebaum, explained the evolution of laws to coerce treatment at a New York City conference (Nov. 2009), sponsored by The Bridge. Other conference speakers include peer-advocate Steve Miccio, housing advocate Sam Tsemberis, and researchers evaluating Kendra's Law.
