Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson wrote and produced some fine tracks for our Miss Ross. Here is another example of what can happen when three exceptional talents join forces.

"Where There Was Darkness"

(Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson)

Where there was darkness
You came and now there's
An abundance of light
Nothin' but sinkin' sand
Suddenly I reach out...and oh...
There's your hand

What a feeling it is to know
You're in my corner
And you won't let me go
And now I know that
I won't be alone no more

I'll give you all I have
And if you teach me
I'll learn to give you more

You are my anchor now
And like a ship at sea
Ooh, your love steadies me

What a feeling it is to know
You're in my corner
And you won't let me go
And now I know that
I won't be alone no more

I'm so glad
Just wanna thank you baby
What a feelin' it is to know
You're in my corner
And you won't let me go
What a feelin' it is to know
You're in my corner
And you won't let me go
What a feelin' it is to know
You're in my corner
And you won't let me go
Thank you baby
What a feelin' it is to know
You're in my corner
And you won't let me go

  • One of my favorites by Diana.

  • @musiclover77able Bernard Edwards & Nile Rodgers were great for Diana as well; "Tenderness" is one of her most under rated songs, not to mention "Upside Down". But I agree; Ashford & Simpson had a very special chemistry with Diana, "Surrender" & "Reach Out, I'll Be There" are amongst my favorites; but I truly love all the songs Ashford & Simpson wrote for her; their chemistry together was magical....

  • RIP Nick Ashford: I LOVE MOTOWN! 08/23/2011

  • I've been playing the cd of the first Diana Ross solo album written and produced by A&S. This song especially brings back the kid I was, all of 14 when I bought this album in the summer of 1970. To have both products by Diana and the new lineup with the Supremes having Jean Terrell, well Motown had two gems at that time. I love t his song so much!

  • Iconic star, Miss Ross!

  • Like HDH and Michael Masser were great writers for Diana so was Ashford and Simpson. All winners. Ashford and Simpson especially pulled out more deeper vocals from Diana. The Boss album is where Diana was hitting notes I never knew she could hit. She SANG her a** off on that album which is still my all time favorite.

  • Awesong song, diana at her best. wish more people could hear her work from this period in her career.

  • my favorite from her

  • LOVE THIS SONG.THE DIVA AT HER BEST.

  • She is stunning! I love the pics
