no i don't think so, only those that get drafted will get a contract with the MLS clubs

It's not because of their currency, actually the Pound is the only one that's above the US dollar. The real issue money wise, is that the MLS has a cap to make all teams equal (last season the last place was only 3 points out of the playoffs), while in Europe there is no salary cap and a reason why, for example in the EPL there's the big 5 teams that are constantly on the top.
