@MrAdwolfe1 The church had a lot of power at they believed that only those who had proven themselves to God should have been allowed to preach or to read from the scriptures mostly priests for only they were able to preach the word of God correctly because at the time people were not very clever preaching without being vetted by the church was a sin in case you preached it wrong, and in those days you could get executed for stealing bread imagine what you would get for disobeying the church

@MrAdwolfe1 No crusaders probably didn't kill people that believed in God and stated that. Crusaders were wariors and fought whereever the catholic Church sent them away from mainland. But on the Catholic mainland there were guards like police. And if they were ordered to execute a heretic, they would do it. And the catholic Church decided who is to speak for God. And only those that were supposed to have the authority was the Catholic Church. Whoever said otherwise, would lose his/her head.
