One thing I'm not understanding is this...
Why have I put myself in this predicament? Before the ego was created, I was just a being, fully aware, happy, joyful, bliss etc. What gave me the need to want to experience an ego if I already knew the consequences of suffering?

Hmmm... are you sure that "I" am "a being," as distinct from being itself? Being differentiates as distinct forms, but there is only one being with many forms of the same being. We do not "move into being." Being moves as "us." ;)
