It's remarkable to see all of Hong Kong's Balinese women socializing together on a Sunday afternoon. Eating, talking, giving each other massages and pedicures, dancing - it was really special to see how these women celebrate the bonds they share with others who share their heritage, to make it less difficult to be a minority in a new land.

  • Yes I remember this as well... many are Filipinas who are enjoying their only day off from work. Since many live in dorms and cramp apartments, they meet in parks and squares. They have become apart of the Hong Kong fabric. Thanks for posting this.

  • interesting video...the 'balinese' women you refer to are actually Filipinas on their sunday day-off. Most are college-educated Filipinas, who are unable to find jobs in the Philippines, so they they sacrifice going to HK to work as maids. Many are unfortunately abused and maltreated by their Chinese elders, and have their passports taken away from them.
