The design of Iris Claw lens has remained unchanged for the past more than 3 decades. This lens had been originally designed to be implanted to the front surface of the iris with the help of the inbuilt claw mechanism .The versatility of the lens was unparalleled and could be implanted in a variety of clinical situaltions where no other lens could be implanted. But it was noted that there was a progressive loss of corneal endothelial cells especially in the lenses which were slightly larger in size. This was attributed to pseudophakodonesis and possibly intermittent lens-endothelial touch. Apart from this, the lens had no shortcomings.
In order to prevent the corneal problems, we started implanting the lens on the back of the iris.
In this video, you will witness the technique of Retro Iris Fixation in a variety of clinical conditions and post-operative results.
great video sir.. is there a way to be absolutely sure that the first 'haptic' has been correctly clawed or enclaved in the posterior surface of the iris before moving on to claw the other haptic?
