The most scenic of the three Baltic States, Estonia is a nation famed for its enormous forests, beautiful wetlands and remote offshore islands as well as for being one of Europe's most friendly and forward-thinking nations.

Estonia is an unspoilt, sparsely populated country, nearly half of which is covered with forests. Wetlands, together with primeval forests, represent preserved communities which have for the most part been destroyed in Europe. More than 1,000 lakes (5% of the Estonian territory) dot the countryside, which is relatively flat - almost two thirds of the territory lies less than 50m (164ft) above sea level. While 7,000 rivers and streams carry rainwater to the sea, bogs and wooded swamplands of different types cover over one fifth of the country - a world index topped only by the northern neighbour, Finland.

  • My housemate comes from here and she's really great

    :-)

  • Estonia is a great country ....who suffered a lot in the past, under the heavy Soviet occupation. Estonia must have all the respect from other countries in the world!

  • <ESTONIA<

  • @fabienik There are also other Baltic countries which also suffered the same and probably much more. Respect to ALL these countries.

  • @roflontex

    Agreed, Brother.

It's okay that you have the same national anthem, it is not a competition. However, Finns first started to use this song in 1840 as a national song even though we were still at the time under Russian rule. Finns did use this song before Estonians but what does it matter today? I think we can both agree it is a beautiful song and us neighbours have always had a friendly spirit - it is an honour for Finns to get to share the song with Estonians.

And what are you trying to say with our being forced into the union? TOO MANY brave Estonians gave their lives to fight till the last drop of blood for Estonia AND Finland (suomen-pojat), but thanks to the cowardice of the western countries (they sacrificed us all to the USSR in hopes of pleasing Stalin), the sacrifices of OUR brothers were in vain.

With all due respect (I love finns) but this is not *your* anthem. Fredrik Pacius wrote the melody and even before it was officially the anthem of anyone, us Estonians had our own version ("Mu isamaa, mu õnn ja rõõm") as early as the end of the 19th century.

You and we simply happened to both love this melody enough to adopt it as our anthems, and since our War of Independence ended later than yours, we got to do it a bit later.

  • Oi Maamme Suomi Synnyinmaa, Soi Sana Kultainen!!! Nothing against Estonians but come up with your own anthem!! This one is ours and belongs to us Finns! Finland gained her independence 1917, Estonia "a while later". Estonia was a part of Soviet Union, Finland never was. Both my great grandfathers along with their brothers fought for Finnish independence in 1917. Many (over half from Mom's side) did not come back. And Suomi it became, not Soviet Finland! And I am eternally grateful for that!!!

  • Nice Anthem Respect From Malta.*

  • Ma ikka armastan sind mu kaunis printsess Eesti
