@MissJenni2642 Thanks for sharing your experience. AU works, but creditors, FICO & BIG 3 don't want people to know HOW it works. Of course, BIG 3 are trying hard to push FICO to the curb with its own "VantageScore." VS does NOT consider AU. People need to understand the different credit scores and which score(s) creditors are using. To me, the AU is a "gateway" credit-boosting strategy....

i will never authorized anybody no even my mother

@b8burnit unfortunately your statement isnt true because I became an AU on my moms credit card and my credit score jumped 50 points

How do I get this cd

@troygodfrey - Yep, paying bills on time positively impacts a credit score. Unfortunately, 43.4 MILLION Americans today (and counting) have "F" credit, mostly caused by "house" problems. Daily, I work with good people faced with job loss, medical emergencies & myriad other unforeseen financial issues destroying their credit. Mostly, I see people who ALWAYS paid their bills on time; they once had good jobs; they had 4 months' emergency money put away; they *thought* they were prepared....

@b8burnit - Thanks for stopping by & commenting. First, who told you AU doesn't work? AU does work, just NOT the way it used to work. For mortgage, underwriters ignore AUs. For everything else, AU works. Chances are, you heard the "AU is dead" chatter, propagated by the BIG 3. Fair, Isaac & CO (FICO) algo still counts AU - Big 3's VantageScore algo does not. You see, STRATEGY improves credit, not blanket comments based on LOTS of misinformation designed to confuse people.

The "authorized user" secret has not worked for over 2 years as a result of changes within the FICO scoring algorithm.
Here's the best secret no one will tell you: The best CS you can have is ZERO. Dave Ramsey said on his radio show that there are 2 scores you can have that will get you a home loan--~ 680&^ OR ZERO. Zero is best. Pay everything off, close ALL accounts & once 6 months goes by, you should be at zero. I am very close to zero. I once played this ridiculous "aim-for-a-high-score" joke, but Dave opened my eyes. I was at 829, 3yrs ago. My net worth in that time went up from 400K to 500K.Aimlow!

@waiting4guffman - I respect Dave Ramsey who's helped countless people. For some people, they can't "opt out" of credit (& credit scoring). Many people NEED a credit file (& score) to get considered for employment. Credit scores play a role in insurance rates. In fact, it's nearly impossible to rent a car or buy a plane ticket w/o a credit card. I agree that BIG 3 have stranglehold on millions. Dave teaches "tough love" and millions need to act on his message.

what if I am at a 680 already. Did you know that at times they can pull a non auto credit report which mine is an 80 point difference!! a 600!! whats up with that?
Capkirk3 1 year ago
@Capkirk3 - By no means is a 680 considered "A" credit. Yet, a 680 (even today) will get a person approved for any kind of credit. Yes, a 680 allows a person to grab the keys to his/her/their new home as well. I'm sorry; I don't know who "they" are or what you mean by hitting your credit score for an 80-point "non auto credit report." The better your score, the harder the hit to your scores with any derogatory, especially LATES. Sorry, I need to understand your comment before I can respond. TY
