Lincoln East HS in Lincoln, Nebraska won their third state boys soccer championship in school history in 2002. New Head Coach Jeff Hoham led the Spartans to a 15-2 record. Highlights during the season included the Wild Card Spartans winning the state title after rival Lincoln High had made T-shirts and bragged on TV that they didn't need a "stinking wild card" to get to state. (L.High lost in the first round of state). The Spartans were led by amazing team play and the individual efforts of Joel Bergt, Zac Zalewski, Brandon Newland, Dave Olson and Grant Horejsi who scored 4 goals in the state tournament playing with an injured knee!
