"The Mystical World of George MacDonald"

This film is now available on DVD for free to my YouTube subscribers. I may sell it eventually, but I want my supporters here to have it first and at no cost. All you have to do is send me a message here or through the email at my website and ask for it. Feel free to show it at your church, school, or other special events.

Part 2 - The Call and the Rejection

This is the 2nd part from a 51-minute documentary on the life and fantasy works of 19th century Scottish author--George MacDonald. I had abandoned the project in 2007 but eventually went back and finished it. It takes a long time to do everything by myself: writing the script, programming all the lettering effects and other special effects, hunting down photos, and especially composing and recording background music along with the narration.

The entire script is culled from my book: "C.S. Lewis Called Him Master (Exploring the Life & Adult Fantasy Works of George MacDonald)". MacDonald was a very big influence on later writers such as C.S Lewis and G.K. Chesterton. MacDonald is often spoken of as having had a mystical imagination. He excelled in fantasy literature of a spiritual nature, the best of which would probably be "Lilith", "Phantastes", "The Portent", and a children's book called "At the Back of the North Wind".

  • My sister and bother in law bought George Macdonald's hose (The Farm, Huntly) a few years ago. Thanks to him and teh 'feelings' in that house, I've now written a children's fantasy novel. I hope it's published - for my daughter and him.

  • Good luck with the book.

  • Part 1 was interesting, but Part 2 is where the story really begins.

MacDonald is a fascinating author, who deserves to be better known. (Why is the film showing Kings College Cambridge as well as Aberdeen?)

  • Cambridge? Because it was pretty. There are also scenes in Illinois that pass for Scotland, and ships that aren't the one GMD sailed on but which look much like it etc. Artistic licence and all.

Part one is much more interesting to most people (the original part 1 had been favorited about 100 times before I took it down). The 2nd part is just about the man. It's his thoughts that are, and should be, the focus. There's also an underlying subtext about other worlds which is more important yet.

  • Many thanks gmd. And also to boombody. Am going through the inevitable 'rejection-letter phase' right now - but am confident that it'll get published by the 'right' people, when it's time. Am possibly in Hutnly tomorrow, so will have a seat at the stone benches outside the museum there - etched with many of Mr M's quotes

  • You can always put it on youtube. Don't use Xlibris as a publisher. They're awful.
