Machete Heaven Intro (1 of 13)

This is the first of 13 videos covering a six day trip I took in the Mata Atlantica with Giuliano Toniolo. This area was very dense bush covered with Taquara, a bamboo like plant that makes travel very difficult. We spent six days with our machetes in our hands the entire time.

when i spent time in ecuador there was a plant like that, i think they called it Chusquea that really resembles that stuff. It was fun to cut down and made great walking sticks if cut at the thickest point.

@lustercowx Taquara is still fragile even when mature. It is fun to cut for about two days...

The brand is SAICO and they are sold here in Brazil. A comparable machete would be the 12 inch Ontario.

I have a 20" panga that my sister brought back from paraguay. It even works for chopping ash tree's.

@colhane if you are just trying to cross terrain not trying to beat a path that can be seen from outer-space, the best, by far, is a Christmas tree knife. They are very light compared to a machete and you can get the full effect by just twitching your wrist. You will find that you can cover much more ground a lot faster for days on end with out even one sore muscle in you arms/hands. Not to mention the cutting noise is not even 1/3 of that of a machete. (for balance go with the 16" handle)
