  • What is the name of this movie?

  • I have only read the first 60 or so pages of the book. And another point crossed my mind. I know many actors today, give, time money etc, to many causes, for example, George Clooney and Darfur. However I cannot think of just one top star rated actor today who likeJjimmy Stewart, would just give up everything for four years, for one cause! And then return to acting!

  • His care for his entire unit was outstanding. - While his primary interest was the air cres, Stewart had a special affec tion for the unheralded groundcrew. He also had a personal custom of always remaining at the control unitl his last crew had returned.

'This hands on interest became Stewart's signature during his WW2 career. And many of his men always mentioned it to me in times of combat."

  • There are some brilliant quotes in the book like this one; 'Jimmy Stewart never made a World War Two Movie and was quoted as saying that Hollywood war pictures never seemed to show things the way they happened.'

  • I think Mr Hobbs Takes a Vaction shows another side of Jimmy Stewart,. In WW2 Life after Hobbs Field, was very difficult for him,. In fact it was the most disconcerting part of his whole life, just stuck training other pilots,, while the film shows his comic side, now laughing at this, 'now I, Jimmy Stewart, am Mr Hobbs, and oh no this is another vacation in hell for me.'

  • What stands out in this book is how Jimmy Stewart could have very easily avoided all combat in World War Two .He could have had an easy ride, . Studio bosses , the Army and Government, all tried to deter him from going into combat, .. But he was not deterred, and the book shows just one other thing an actor can do besides act. he had to fight many battles against his own side , just to face the real enemy!

  • Mr Hobbs takes a vacation,- Hobbs base. For at Hobbs, Stewart, along with 29 other colleagues passed their training, only he was not sent to combat, but to be a flying instructor himself. Did Jimmy Stewart have any say in the naming of the film I wonder? it is obvious to me that jimmy stuart was a very modest man, like Mrs Peters has also been described, by other commentators here.

  • 'Jimmy Stewart - Bomber Pilot' was written by a close wartime colleague, Colonel Starr Smith.' I can recommend this book to anyone to show how this man stood out from almost all his contempories. I had to take a double take when I started reading this book for on Page 35 it said that his flying career in the military really began to take off when he was sent to HOBBS ARMY AIR CORPS BASE for training on multi engine aircraft! Is there a connection I ask myself!

  • Just reading the comments here, I would like to add something that may be of interest to budding actors/film historians. This clip is from a film called ' Mr Hobbs Goes on Vacation. starring Jimmy Stewart. i recently saw the film recently on British tv. And recognised the actress in question from Summer Holiday. Well Just last week in our local library, I caught sight of a recently published Book (2005) called 'Jimmy Stewart - Bomber Pilot.'

  • this song is actually called Cream Puff :)
