Third ironman crown for Chrissie Wellington
Record breaker Chrissie Wellington became only the third woman to be crowned World Ironman Champion for the third successive year at the weekend.
The 32-year-old, who was born in Bury St Edmunds, smashed the 17-year long course record, held by Zimbabwe's Paula Newby-Fraser after stopping the clock in an impressive eight hours, 54.02 minutes.
After turning professional in February 2007, the former Thetford Dolphins Swimming Club member has lifted every recognised title, including the European championship.
Ironman is a step up from the Olympic sport triathlon each discipline is tougher as athletes tackle a 2.4-mile swim, before a 112-mile bike race and 26.2-mile run.
