  • i hit a pretty hard 2nd, so i accept occasionally i will crash & burn. on a big point i put all of my focus on the part of the court i intend to hit & rehearse it mentally. - love these vids, keep em coming

  • @platocardiff Right. There's a tradeoff for going after too big a 2nd serve, but sounds like you've got the right mindset. Glad you like these vids.

  • Hey Brent,

I like your videos, and I really appreciate the fact that you try to translate old school fundamentals into our more physical, modern game.

I used to be a recreational player, but after a few years of playing I've become very good at all the basics. However, I'm tired and sick of limiting my game to the baseline. I never rush the net at all unless I get a short ball or a really good chance for an approach shot!

I would love a serve and volley guide from an old school player.

  • @VoiceOfAMinority Hey Voice. Nice to read a comment from a "voice" of reason.

Best way to get my serbe and volley course is to go to webtennis [dot] com and you'll see the link there titled "Courses".

    Click it.

    Thanks,

    Brent

  • @webtennis Uh, that would be "serve and volley" ;-)

  • hit up, good spin (or fake spin) and placement. I never think about missing it or hitting a cream puff just to get it in.

  • @Chipinjack Hey Jack. Always good sound feedback from you. Thanks.

  • Well, me little voice is always telling me to throw a good toss with a good grip but my mind would freeze at that point so the little voice isnt exactly there :)

  • I say to myself - good toss, firm grip. It's my way to focus on something positive and prevent a whimpy tentative second serve

  • Hi Brent,

I was looking for years to find information about playing tennis like in your videos. Absolutely top. THX!

In this situation I try to think this: "It´s my (!) big chance. If I place this 2nd serve successfully, if I make this point now, it will break a bit the lucky-near-by-victory-feeling of my f.... competitor."

Of course, it´s realy not so easy to do like this. But with concentration it works (by me only sometimes ...:-).

    Greetings from Berlin / Germany

    Wolfgang

  • @webtennis perhaps, I just thought you ought to know you seem like a really solid and respectable fellow in a way that transcends more than just the game of tennis

  • Alright, cannonball serve didn't work out. let's place this kick serve center court and high in the air so it doesn't hit the net. if it lands more on their backhand/less dominant side, approach the net to attack the weak return. If it lands more on their forehand/more dominant side, observe the opponent's movement carefully and back up if your serve was too attackable.
