All u need to do is set the lead in measures in the Preferences before Logic starts recording. No need to marquis anything.

Why don't you just record another take and comp the problem area(s)?

by far one of the simplest but most valuable videos a logic pro use can use. this will change the way i set up ... instead of hitting record and running to my mic booth... now i just stand in front of the mic and wait til the part comes along sing and know exactly where its going to stop... wow great video thank you...

@yunggrizzo Yes you can. And it actually rocks for it!

Why can't you just use the puchin button? for this?
-
when i use this technique it automatically arms all my tracks instead of just the one i want to law down, does anyone know how to change this?

One advantage of this in a larger sense;
If you are laying down sequenced/ loop-based music, like hip hop or electronic-type stuff, sometimes you have loops of varying lengths that sit in odd ways in your arrange window that you must chop and sequence to make a song....
This way of recording creates a region of an exact length that fits perfectly into the grid for proper and easy looping. It's what I do when I need to lay down live audio on top of pre-sequenced MIDI loops.
