@magpieeye I agree about using only Downy. I started making my own cleaners (which I'm saving a lot of money one), but there are some things (like bleach, Downy, and Dawn) that is like CRACK to me. I even know of another solution to fabric softening, but I just can't part with my Downy....LOL
You only gave the Downy ball a 7?? I give it a 10, that little gadget saves alot of time. Oh FYI, you can use it with other brands, but why would anyone want to use anything except Downy :)
If something works perfectly how do you give it a 7? The excess water is part of the package, it actually works because of the weight in the bottom of the plug when the plastic side of the ball hits the side of the machine it stops, the continuing inertia of the weight (which is attached to the Plug) continues and thus pulls the plug causing water inflow and dispersal.
It works great with any liquid fabric softener, not just Downy. I've used it with vinegar and Ecover fabric softener. If you use a different fabric softener, make sure to measure it out in accordance to the instructions on the bottle, and not the lines on the Downy ball.
I actually bought two, since they're cheap and sometimes it gets bundled up in the clothes and put in the dryer when washing large loads.
I agree...adorable! I bought one yesterday and used it today. I wondered how it worked and glad I checked this out. Also I use Snuggle ( it's my preference and it's usually on sale) and it works just fine.

@shmuli9 yeah like my washer, I have no dispenser, so the Downy ball comes in handy. I also use the Downy dryer sheets when I'm out of the liquid :)

If a machine HAS a fabric softener dispenser, why WOULD one use a Downy Ball? (In machines that don't have one, it makes sense, though.)
