U.S. arms sales double despite crisis

Sales of U.S. arms have doubled during last year and now account for more than two-thirds of all foreign weapons sales, according to a report by the New York Times.

@mikkeyman1984 Yeah right - if we don't do it someone else will... it's deeply wrong that our governments (UK and US) have prioritised arms manufacture over all other manufacturing. The arms industry in the UK takes huge amounts of taxpayers money, while the entire manifacturing base of the UK at least was allowed to die. What a sick set of priorities.

Capitalism is not a good system...but its the best we have. Where there's conflict, there's always going to be someone making a dollar off of other people's suffering and they'll always find a way to justify their actions whether its illegal arms dealers or United States weapons manufacturers.

I agree with Quantum on one point, there will always be war and we can't sit by and do nothing while our civilians are murdered.

@QuantumQuacks Of course certain things like wars won't die out. But the US DOES need to start exporting other things besides weapons. If all the US can export are weapons, its economy can easily be strangled.

@ImperialEmpire In a real war, you will be fighting enemies that will use their own way of fighting to offset conventional disadvantages. Why do you think any sovereign and generals with brains will let themselves be drawn into a war on America's terms? China's plan for war with the US, for example, involves dumping Trillions of dollars of US Treasury Bills and bonds to prompt mass exodus out of these markets and collapse the economy as well as launching attacks on satellites and communications.

@USAAIRPOWER your countries military is selling weapons because the government is broke...and we all know that if the money is running out any country will not have any power to maintain an expensive war machine...and this is the results,selling weapons to make money to maintain and pay military personnel...tell me what the soviets did to their weapons after the collapse?thats what i thought...think before u speak
