@Nacholibresworld I think just being greatful for the food in your belly is important and giving thanks to the countless sentient beings who worked together in order to provide you with it helps. Eating the food is meditation in itself as is the walk. I prefer vegetarian but I would not refuse anothers hospitality even if it was meat, that would be rude maybe. I possibly would walk further than 30km if the only thing on offer was boiled frogs, poor kermit...

If I may explain with an example: Say you are a virtuous person and do your meditation properly, keep the precepts,. Someone brings you your food everyday. That someone always brings boiled frogs. Now there is place some 30 km away where, if you go, will get a vegetarian meal. Now if you walk (assuming you have other means of transportation), will take you most of your day just to eat a vegetarian meal and come back. No time for meditation. Which will you wanna do? That is the answer.

Vegetarian life is virtuous. But being a vegetarian is not the most significant achievement to a true Buddhist. Ending of all suffering, is. For that supreme goal, Buddha's way is the Noble 8-fold path through meditation. In that quest, striving to be vegetarian, at times, is a hindrance. One can eat what he gets and use the time to meditate properly. Monks cannot decide on the menu. Gotta eat what you are fed. Meditating is the more virtuous thing. So, don't worry too much about food

@wambamsam Not neccesarily. The earliest buddhists do eat meat. The monks are prohibited from killing so they cant eat meat from their killing, and they cant eat meat just prepared for them because that encourage killing. I know that the monks in Japan are allowed to drink wine. So it all depends on the local tradition.

@wambamsam hi Theravada Buddhist can eat everything but not meat that purposely kill for them. Mahayana Buddhist are encouraged to be vegetarian. Basically is up to individual. there is no rule or regulations on what we eat.
