Rare footage of Bill Chase and his band performing live at the Faces club in Chicago on February 28, 1974. This video was shot during the album release party for the Pure Music album. This is the only known concert footage of the band. This clip is the encore with solos by the whole trumpet section.

Sadly, just six months later, Bill and three members of his band were killed in a plane crash.

  • @paulrob2006 need to listen to first 3-4 Chicago albums more jazz influence than what you think. you can't go by their singles need to hear the album cuts. "Hit by Varese" very jazzy. Questions 67 & 68 etc etc.

  • @sheddski Amen to that.

  • @macdaddybill Saw Chase open for Chicago in 1972 at Western Illinois University. They kicked Chicago's ass. And believe me, I love Chicago, especially during that period.

  • All players have great chops. Incredibly BAD ASS. Bill had so much more music in him. He burned so brightly during his career. They great ones always do.

  • When Bill's introducing musicians, the three guys who died with him a few month later, it feels so sad. But those guys were happy doing what they did best and they made people happy. They were so young, especially the guitar player John Emma. Maybe I'm too sentimental but it come from my heart.

  • Times like these make me proud to be a trumpet player.

  • @paulrob2006 I can't stand Chicago. I was front and center at Memphis In May (waiting for James Brown) and they had some kicking horn songs, followed by some of the crappiest ballads. Oh well. It is what it is....but it ain't CHASE

  • @ProductionServicesAZ My father found their album in a ship and I was blown away when I heard it. I love these guys!

  • chicago was a different band after terry kath blew his brains out playing with a loaded gun

  • they were from the boston area

  • Met Bill Chase in 1971. He used the "no pressure" method of playing trumpet. He would hang his trumpet from a string and stand with his hands behind his back and practice screeches! He did it for us in a clinic--damn impressive it was. Amazing talent and a life cut way too short.
