Here's a bird's eye view of how this works:

-I'm writing with a modified energizer light pen (removed white LED, replaced with IR led and changed current limiting resistor, modified switch in cap and clip assembly by making little insulating washers our of mylar film to insulate it, then changed the bend on the clip and sanded off the annodize so it would function as an easy to switch on-off momentary switch).

-The screen image is being projected by a dlp projector located behind me.

-The light pen makes a reflected dot of Infrared light on the wall, which is picked up by a wiimote located behind me and off to the side (so I don't block the dot while I'm writing). More specifically, the wiimote incorporates a 1024x768 monochrome CCD with a lens and infrared band pass filter. The wiimote also has hardware and software that do blob tracking on up to four blobs simultaneously at 100Hz.

-The blob coordinates (on the CCD, pixel coordinates), in this case the location of pen tip, are read from the wiimote over bluetooth using the .NET wiimote api by Brian Peek.

-In this demo I'm also using a cursor control and CCD-coordinates-to-screen-coordinates calibration routine by Johnny Chung Lee.

-Finally, to demo the cursor emulation, I'm using a paint program I wrote back in high school.

...whee! It's fun to play with with other programs to, Google Earth in full screen especially. Cooliris is fun... realtime strategy games would be fun too.
